How to Get a Driver’s License in Tulum, Mexico as a Foreigner

To get a driver’s license in Tulum, Mexico as a foreigner, you will need to go to the Police Station located on the same road as the Chedraui grocery store at Av Coba 107, Tulum, Quintana Roo, 77760. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The following are the required documents:

• Original passport
• Copy of passport photo page
• Copy of residence permit
• Copy of medical certificate/ Blood Test
• Copy of eye exam
• Copy of CURP (optional)
• CFE bill

The license is good for 2 years. The whole process takes about 40 minutes.

Here are some additional tips:

• Make sure all of your documents are on separate sheets of paper.
• Get your medical certificate from a doctor at Farmacia Similares.
• You do not need to get a new medical certificate or eye exam if you are renewing your license.
• Request the “licencia de chofer C” so you can drive cars and pickups.
• Do not forget your CFE bill!
